Matt has extensive experience working across Orthopaedic and Sports Physiotherapy. Starting at the Alfred Hospital, he has worked both in Public and Private Healthcare facilities and Private Practices.
He is currently the Physiotherapist for the Melbourne Aces Baseball Club the 2019 Claxton Sheild Champions.
He has also been a Physiotherapist for Hawthorn Football Club and Waverley (Melbourne) Reds Baseball Club and was lucky enough to be involved in Premierships during his time with them.
Matt has also done research in conjunction with the AFL and AFLPA looking into the effect that a high level sporting career has on life, following retirement from the sport. This was the basis upon which the current ALF player welfare program was underpinned.
Working closely alongside leading specialists means Matt is up to date on current techniques for the treatment of injuries, and can provide access to premium healthcare options.
Matt has a passion for rehabilitation, and enjoys taking patients through the process of Prehabilitation, Post op recovery, and then ongoing Strength and Conditioning training programs to maximise recovery. Matt also utilises trigger point needling as part of his treatment techniques.
He is a certified TPI (Titleist Performance Institute) Practitioner, and has also completed courses is ACSA Level 1 and OnBaseU. He is a member of the Baseball Health Professional Association.
Matt also offers high performance throwing programs using the Driveline Baseball Philosophy, strength and conditioning of the arm is performed as well as altering arm slot kinematics. This is particularly useful for elite arm rehabilitation as well as improving strength and velocity.
He is a keen cook, cyclist and football fanatic.
Sarah is a current Senior Physiotherapist at Balwyn Football Club and is undertaking her Masters in Sports Physiotherapy at La Trobe University. In addition to this, she undertakes part-time work for the AFL as a research consultant managing the soft-tissue injury registry.
She has previously worked at Monash Blues Football club and Kew Box Hill Premier Hockey Club. Sarah has gained valuable experience in the past from working at Geelong Football Club, and travelling as a Physio to numerous State and National Hockey tournaments.
Sarah also works with Cricket Australia and has travelled overseas and interstate for tournaments.
In her spare time, Sarah plays both premier hockey and cricket and is an avid skier. She is also a keen MCC Melbourne supporter and brunch enthusiast.
Dean Huffer is a graduate of the Doctor of Physiotherapy program at Bond University, and also holds a Master’s degree in Exercise Science from Adams State University in Colorado, U.S.A.
Dean comes from an athletics background, and was an Australian youth champion and Victorian All Schools champion over middle distance events before going onto compete collegiately in the United States.
His interest in physiotherapy stemmed from multiple injuries that affected his progress as an athlete, and a desire to provide better injury prevention and treatment services in the community.
Dean has been committed to seeking out the best in high performances practices and spent 2012 conducting research at US post-collegiate distance training centres in the lead up to the London Olympics. Recently he has been conducting research into the effectiveness of intrinsic foot musculature strength training for treating plantar fasciitis.
Dean is a passionate physiotherapist that treats musculoskeletal conditions affecting children through to the elderly.

Kseniya is a Doctor of Physiotherapy graduate from Melbourne University with a strong background in exercise physiology and strength and conditioning. She has previous experience working as a Sports Trainer with both NPL and State 1 League soccer teams in Melbourne, and enjoys working along the rehabilitation continuum from acute injury management to optimising performance.
She grew up in Vancouver, Canada where she worked in exercise rehabilitation, assisting individuals in their recovery following motor vehicle accidents. Kseniya believes in empowering patients through education and is fluent in Russian and French in addition to English.
Kseniya was a former competitive rhythmic gymnast, and still continues to train as a dancer. She also loves escaping the city for outdoor adventures such as hiking and camping.
Ben has been a Podiatrist for 17 years working at an elite level for all sports. An ex AFL player, he understands the ever changing sports medicine world.
Specialising in lower limb injury treatment, biomechanical analysis and injury prevention. If you have heel pain, shin splints, achilles pain or need footwear assessment and/or orthotic prescription then Ben is your man.
Ben consults at GSSC on Monday Afternoons and Thursday mornings.
Ryan graduated from Latrobe University in 2010 with a Bachelor of Podiatry.
Ryan has completed continued professional development in courses on dry needling, foot mobilisation, running biomechanics and injury/rehabilitation, along with professional bike fitting and cycling orthotics.
For the past 10 years he has worked in a variety of settings and these experiences have allowed him to gain knowledge in all aspects of podiatry. From the elite sportsperson to the recreational athlete, he has excellent experience in helping you to reach your fitness goals, with a large focus on strength and conditioning and injury prevention.
He works with leading physiotherapists, surgeons, and exercise physiologists, along with diabetes educators, dieticians and GP’s to achieve the best possible outcome for patients.
Ryan also has a background in technical footwear and can help provide you with information for all your footwear needs.
When Ryan is not in the clinic he is a regular at the gym olympic weightlifting, along with cycling and wakeboarding during summer.
Dr. Nicola is also an internationally qualified sports chiropractic specialist after post-graduate studies in Europe.
James worked as a sports chiropractor in the Rio Paralympic Village polyclinic where he treated a number of gold and silver medallists including one Paralympic athlete who broke the world record in power-lifting just two hours after being treated!
In 2004 & 2005, James practised in Ireland & Sweden and attended the Pre-Olympic Congress in Greece where he managed members of the Greek Olympic athletics team.
James is currently the head of the medical team for the Genova International School of Soccer where he has actively managed many young players as they signed for top tier European clubs. James also served as the joint head of the medical team for the South Melbourne Soccer Club between 2009 and 2013.
James makes it a priority to treat every patient with the same level of care regardless of what condition they present in.
James’ other areas of special interest are pre-natal and post-natal care, paediatrics and family health.
Dr. Nicola is an holistic therapist who understands the benefits of a multi-modal tailored approach for all patients regardless of level of activity. James utilises various techniques such as different soft tissue techniques, taping techniques, dry needling and rehab advice with a special focus on the skeletal structure and joint mechanics in particular, both spinal and peripheral joints. As a chiropractor, James is very proficient at manual manipulation of joints but he also utilises other lower force techniques to restore joint motion based on what he feels is required and especially based on patient preferences.
James also integrates a chiropractic technique called Applied Kinesiology into his treatment. This technique utilises manual muscle testing to help pinpoint precise areas that may need attention but this is done on the backdrop of a very evidence-based general approach. As such, Dr. Nicola has been a presenter across a number of different sports chiropractic science forums.

Hamish Anderson graduated from La Trobe University with a Bachelor of Science in Occupational Therapy in 1995. After graduating, he worked in New York, and it was here over the next 5 years that he developed his focus on the management of hand injuries. In 2001 he qualified as a Certified Hand Therapist, which is the highest international recognition of hand therapy skills available.
Returning to Australia in 2002, Hamish began his own private hand therapy practice, which he continues to manage whilst also being the senior hand therapy clinician at the Austin Hospital.
With a special interest in the management of wrist trauma and sporting injuries to the hand, Hamish has published research on the rehabilitation of wrist injuries, and works directly with the Hawthorn Football Club as their in house hand therapist.
He also consults to Tennis Australia and the Melbourne Rebels Rugby Union club.
We are proud to have him join the GSSC team, his special interest in the management of sporting injuries means he can tailor treatment programs to help you return to your sport as safely and as swiftly as possible.

Leigh completed his “Certificate in Massage” in 1987. His first professional appointment was in early 1989 with the Melbourne Football Club (the Dee’s, then in VFL, now AFL) where he remained till 2009. Later in 1989 he gained a placement with Olympic Park Sports Medicine Centre at Olympic Park, now AAMI stadium. During his time at OPSMC his involvement with most sports, recreational, state, national and international, has been extensive.
In 1993 he joined Melbourne University Sport and remained there till 2013. While there, he attended two World University Games (Isle of Majorca, Spain and Beijing, China) as massage therapist to the Australian contingent.
Currently Leigh is part of the” Players Medical Services” team for PGA Australia treating at major golf tournaments in Victoria and NSW.
Throughout his 28yrs in sports and general massage Leigh has practiced in multi-disciplinary clinics and venues alongside specialists in all aspects of health care and fitness. Although Leigh concentrates on soft tissue conditions, if his client’s require more than soft tissue treatment he is able to provide access to premium health care and fitness options. Leigh believes that pro-active massage is preferable to reactive massage and that the computer is God’s gift to the massage therapist.
In 2010 Leigh attended Melbourne Institute of Massage Therapy and acquire his “Diploma in Remedial Massage” (to satisfy Health Insurers), and enjoyed the experience.
Currently he is completing a course on Equine Therapy in Creswick, Victoria (last module of 8).
Leigh has a passion for music so if you seek treatment with him, there will be music from classical to rock……be warned!
Leigh is here on Tuesday AM, all day Wednesday and Thursday and every other Saturday morning at GSSC.
Jackie holds a Diploma of Remedial Massage, and has worked, managed and practiced in both clinic and spa settings.
She has experience in a broad range of areas specialising in deep tissue and remedial massage, cupping and postural analysis.
Jackie is currently completing a Bachelor of Education, specialising in Physical education.
Jackie enjoys weight training, wake-boarding and a good coffee.
Reiona is an Experienced Myotherapist/Remedial Massage Therapist with extensive experience in Manual Lymphatic Drainage and Structural Integration.
She specialises in pregnancy and post-natal concerns, as well as injury management and postural assessment. Respectful and patient focused, Reiona takes a holistic approach to working with patients and employs a range of massage techniques and incorporates various styles into an slow, deep massage style that ensures that you and your body are ‘heard’.
Reiona is currently on Maternity leave.

Claire is our lovely Saturday clinical receptionist.
Claire has been with GSSC since 2018 and is currently completing her final year of Master of Occupational Therapy.
At the moment Claire is gaining experience as an occupational therapy assistant working with young children with Autism Spectrum Disorder and co-occurring conditions such as ADHD and when she graduates hopes to work with Acquired and Traumatic Brain Injury (A/TBI) patients.
